"Major" Decision / 22 Days to Go!!

So much crazy stuff is going on!! School is wrapping up so quickly! It's insane. Only 12 days until my last final! Woo! Of course, that also means I only have 12 days to finish everything hahaha. But I will, so no worries.

I'm updating today because I have exciting news! I've decided what to do with my languages! I don't mean completely in general, cause I want to be a teacher. That was always the plan. But no, I decided what I want to do as far as majors, and I'm going to try to double! =3 You have to apply to double major at school here, so it's going to be a LONG process. I have to work things out with both departments and make it so I don't have to take some classes twice (once from a German teacher and once from a French teacher but same material), plan student teaching, make a FULL, detailed graduation plan (as in every class I'm going to take and when I'll take it from now until my graduation), and an essay-type thing explaining why I need to double major or why I think it's so important. And that's just the stuff I have to do to even GET the double major application form!! From there I have NO idea what I'm going to have to do haha. Oh well. Not important today!

I've already talked to both the professors and they're more than willing to work with me, but they both want their respective language to be my "Primary major." Haha. It's funny. I don't know which I'll do. It won't make a difference to me, it just changes which department my information goes to? Something like that.

But I'm so happy!! This has been a fantastic decision, and I feel a BIG step in the right direction.

I'm going to be the only one out of... 40,000? students doing this. It happens with other random combinations, but almost never French/German. I'm excited =3 lol. And oh so happy!

Taking things one day at a time is really helping. And getting up early. It means I have to go to bed earlier than I generally want to, but it's good for me. Even though I'm not an easy person to wake up, once I'm awake I'm EXTREMELY productive. It's awesome! I've gone from 17 MAJOR assignments to....6? (To give you an idea, one of the "assignments" ? 50 online quizzes. Seriously, just one. Another was an entire month's worth of homework I got behind on that's due by the end of the semester. Another was a 4 page paper in French. So yeah. Not little things). It's so awesome. I feels so relaxed right now. I took the night off. Carson (my brother) and I got ice cream today and played Penuchle. I won by a LOT (since I got a VERY lucky combination. A marriage in every suit, which is automatic 80 points, so I won the game without us even playing that hand haha). I love hanging out with him. I wish we got to do it more, but we're both always so busy! But it's ok. We'll always be siblings, so no rush =)

Tonight I'm cleaning out my room (or starting to) of things I don't need anymore so I won't have as much stuff to store. It's a good feeling, getting rid of old things. I don't know why, but it's sort of relieving in a way. =)

Anyway it's almost 9:30 and I'm getting tired, so I need to work on it some more before I go to bed. I have quite a bit to do tomorrow so I need to sleep soon. If I get up early enough and get things done, then I'll get to have my afternoon/evening free. Yay! I love the weekend. It's awesome and SO refreshing. Which is exactly what I need right now.

Two days of classes left. Then reading days. Then 2 exams (a final and a post-course test in French grammar, though one isn't graded it's just for department use), German exam Monday (the 19th), French lit is Wednesday and the technology class presentation is that night. I think Mission prep is Monday evening? I forget. Again, not a big deal. And then, that Saturday, I go home! Then exactly one week later, I leave for Germany.

It's hard to believe it's coming up so fast! The week before is going to be SO helpful, especially since I'm making this 6:30am thing a habit. I'm going to be able to study so well! And before anyone else gets up (except dad haha) so I won't even miss anything while I'm home! So exciting haha =)

I'm always in-between things it feels like. I mean, I live in the moment as much as I can, but there's always something new and exciting waiting for me in the future and something to keep me going on the bad days. It's awesome.

I love my life. <3

(I'm very long-winded, aren't I? Maybe I should work on that. What can I say? I love to talk. Stories are my life. This one is anyway).

Time to get to work. Bye everyone!

24 Days to Go!

Salem insisted I make an official blog rather than just having a livejournal. He's such an elitist =P But that's ok. I love him anyway.

Ok! So. As stated in the title, there are 24 days to go until I leave for Germany. =D I'm so excited! However, my excitement is definitely hindered because of finals. This is the last full week of school. Next week we have classes Monday and Tuesday, then "Reading" (or study) days. Finals start on Friday and run until the following Wednesday. I have 4 finals and a project, so not too bad. My Mission prep. exam is open note and open book, so really there are no issues there. And the project won't be too bad I don't think. So it really only leaves me with 3 finals to worry about - German, French Grammar, and French literary analysis. Oh the fun times that will be had!

I suppose, however, since this is my first blog entry, I should explain what it's all about instead of complaining about my life haha. I'm a student. Finals happen. I'll have nightmares about failing them until the day I die. Don't we all? Haha.

Anyway! My name is Sarah. I'm 20 years old and I'm a sophomore in college. This summer, I will be spending 3 months in Germany! The majority of that time will be spent in Berlin where I will be studying German at the Goethe Institute.

I'm going on a study abroad program that runs from May 2nd through July 9th. For the last week of that time, my group will travel around Germany to see the historic and cultural sites. I think we'll go to 8 cities? I forget. All of them are in the western half of Germany. After that, I will spend about 2 weeks in Bonn (near the eastern border of Germany) with my friend Tobi. He's a medical student at the Uni in Bonn. I'll leave Germany on July 19th and get home to Pittsburgh probably sometime in the morning on the 20th. I haven't figured out the time changes and all of that, so I don't really know haha. But since it's only April, it seems like a silly thing to worry about.

Since many of you are unaware, I have never taken German before this semester (apart from a few weeks back in 6th grade, as was required by the school, but that was almost 8 years ago, so it hardly counts). I took French all through grade school (or really, from 7th grade up until now) and am continuing to learn it here.

My ultimate goal is to be both a French and a German teacher. I haven't decided yet which of the two I'm going to major in, but the plan is to figure that all out after I get back from Germany.

I'll include pictures in my blog when I can, because just text gets very boring after a while, especially if I have a lot to say (which I nearly always do haha).

Anyway, it's now almost 1:30 and I have a LOT of work to get done today! So here you have it. This is the start of my journey to Germany. It's gonna be a crazy ride!
